We are one of the largest and most renowned training centers for students of Industrial Engineering and Management in Germany. With a focus on inderdisciplinary research and study in the field of industrial engineering, informatics and economics, we are contributing to finding sustainable solutions to today’s most pressing challenges.
The degree programs Industrial Engineering and Management (BSc and MSc), Information Systems (BSc and MSc, jointly with KIT-Department of Informatics), Digital Economics (BSc and MSc), as well as Business Mathematics (MSc, jointly with KIT-Department of Mathematics) provide a broad and diverse learning environment for students.

After studying technical economics at the University of Karlsruhe, Dr. Tobias Lindner embarked on a career in politics. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 2011 to 2025. In our interview, he talks about the valuable experience he gained during his studies and the key skills that have helped him on his career path - from working in the Bundestag to serving as Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office.

Heinrich-Hertz-Gastprofessur 2024 - Festvortrag
Multimodales Verstehen von Video-Datenströmen und Bild-Sprache gesteuerte Robotik
In ihrem Vortrag stellt Dr. Cordelia Schmid ihre aktuelle Forschung zu Künstlicher Intelligenz vor, die große Datenmengen von Bewegtbild und Sprache gleichzeitig verarbeiten kann. An konkreten Beispielen erläutert sie deren Entwicklung und Funktion. Sie zeigt außerdem, wie solche KI-Systeme eingesetzt und genutzt werden können, etwa bei der Untertitelung von Videos oder zur Steuerung von Robotern.
Die deutsche Informatikerin und Alumna des KIT Dr. Cordelia Schmid ist Expertin für Künstliche Intelligenz. Bedeutende Forschungserfolge erzielte sie im Bereich KI-gestützter Bildverarbeitung, deren Verfahren heute als Standard gelten. Neben ihrer Tätigkeit als Forschungsdirektorin am französischen Forschungsinstitut INRIA in Grenoble leitet sie ein Forschungsprojekt bei Google Research.
