KIT will provide assistance in obtaining health insurance for incoming and outgoing students, according to the requirements of the ERASMUS Charter for Higher Education. For students, having health insurance with unlimited coverage for the entire duration of their stay in Germany is mandatory.

We strongly recommend that all incoming students ensure they are fully insured. The insurance policy should cover medical emergencies as well as personal property.

Living Costs

The cost of living in Karlsruhe is moderate compared to other major German cities. On average, exchange students should budget around €650 to €1,100 per month to cover essential expenses. Here's a rough breakdown:

• Rent (including utilities): €350–€600 (depending on location and type of accommodation) 
• Food and groceries: €200–€300
• Leisure, clothing, and personal expenses: €100–€200

Besides these costs, you have to pay the semester ticket and health insurance (if not already covered).
